Great discussion and after research of my own i totally agree. Question tho, im a Black man who was born in poverty but i joined the military after HS and used my VA to purchase my first hm. I wanted to be a millionaire so i started reading about investing and personal finance. Im a millionaire today at 59 and will probably be a multimillionaire by 63 meaning 2million or more in assets. With just a HS education and reading on my own. Can't the stock market close the wealth gap ? My net worth is higher than most white families in the US. Im in the top 15% in net worth in the US. Don't you think if we teach young blk people about personal finance it will make a difference. It did for me. Simply starting with understanding a 401k and IRA then branching off into brokerage accounts. Y'all are using big ideas vs starting with the simple. The individual, habits, thinking process, spending habits, it starts with the grass roots.

As a US American 41 yr old dude who's been in working in China for the past 10 years, I would say this for people pushing 50 & 60 in the US: Stop watching TV with your beer, ciggaretes, and wine, night after night. Go outside and do stuff, dance, stretch, get sunlight, walk, or run. Even playing board games outside is something. I know this is technically anecdotal, but older people here look so much healthier and happier... To some degree anyway.

I saw Sunset Boulevard quite recently, and what struck me about the movie, besides how skilled Billy Wilder was as a screenwriter and director, was how kind Mr. Mayer was when she visited the set. He offered her his chair and quickly advised the propmaster to stop contacting Ms. Desmond about renting her old car. He carefully lets her preserve her delusion as much as possible, and the actors on set treat her like visiting royalty. I also thought it was very sweet when her handsome “house guest” offered comfort when she was so devastated. Let’s suppose her first husband/director/butler had not spent all those years assisting Ms. Desmond, helping her maintain her delusion by writing her fake fan letters and taking the locks off the doors to keep her on suicide watch. I wonder if she might have eventually come to grips with reality and adjusted to her new life, maybe as a character actress or coach… My favorite movie line is from “Remember the Titans” when the locals threaten Denzel Washington’s character, and he comes out onto his porch with a rifle and says, “I will not be intimidated.” That resonated with me because, as an underwriter during 2007, 2008, and beyond, there was often pressure put on underwriters to pretend not to see things or to approve bad loans. You had to stand up to loan officers and the sales team. As an underwriter, your reputation for integrity was everything.

This was one of the most pointless discussions I’ve listened to in a while. Ask me how I built wealth and it’s literally NONE of the things they expressed. When you start with, “if they would just” instead of “if I would just” or if “if we would just” you’ve already lost. It’s NOT going to happen.

I was not able to watch the Movie. (due to no internetconnection) Over the years I "lost" so many stupid works (which made me very happy) at least I lost my job. Nobody would pay 40 hours for 4 hours work! And I did not like to wait being allowed to go home :) I would be very interrested in a Part II. Did this experiment go wrong or was/is it a failure? I "tried" in 2019 to learn Chinese. I tried to understand the culture. All I got was propaganda. And at least a "lock down" at home (due to the pandemic) How can somone overcome "trying not to try" :)
